And in the meantime, when you’re searching for delicious Italian food, you’re always welcome at Veneto’s!

Origins of Risotto

Risotto is believed to have originated in Northern Italy, specifically in the region of Lombardy. The dish first appeared in written records around the late 1800s, but it’s likely that it’s been enjoyed for much longer than that! Some culinary historians even believe the Arabic dish pilaf may have inspired the dish. This dish is also typically made with rice cooked in broth.

How it’s Made

The key to making good risotto is using the right type of rice. The short-grain Arborio rice is the most commonly used variety because it has a high starch content. This is what gives the dish its characteristic creaminess. The slow cooking process of risotto allows the rice to release its starch, creating a smooth and creamy texture!

Risotto Has Many Variations

Traditionally, risotto was served as a first course or a side dish. But it has become popular over time as a main course in recent years. The dish has also been adapted in many different ways to suit tastes and preferences. Some variations include seafood risotto, mushroom risotto, and even dessert risotto made with sweet ingredients like chocolate and fruit. On our menu at Veneto’s, you’ll be able to find a Steak Tips Risotto Plate and Grilled Shrimp Risotto Plate!
